| For example : In Amberley in 1711 a WILLIAM SOUTER married a RACHEL YOUNG. during the next 11 years 1 child was recorded to this couple but 5 children were baptised to a WILLIAM SOWTER & RACHEL. |
| Also in Amberley between 1735 & 1753 1 child was born to JOHN SOUTER & ELIZABETH & 8 children were born to JOHN SOWTER & ELIZABETH |
| This pattern of SOUTERS & SOWTERS having the same Christian names as well as their spouses having the same Christian names is repeated, not only several times in Amberley, but also in the adjoining Parishes of Bury, Easebourne, Heyshott, Pulborough & Stedham. |
